Olaniyi Talabi, 68, was charged with assaulting a 10-year-old boy on Monday at an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The police filed assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace charges against Talabi, whose residence’s address was not made public.
According to the prosecution team, DSP Gbemileke Agoi, the defendant committed the crime on Tuesday about 3 p.m. in the Apeka neighborhood of Ikorodu, Lagos.
Agoi claimed that by assaulting the kid, the defendant acted in a way that was likely to disturb the peace.
He said that the offense was against sections 168(D) and 172 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.
But the accused entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until July 20 for mention.
